John E. Baumgardner

Savannah-John E. Baumgardner, beloved husband of 58 years of Gerry Brandenburg, father of John, Norman and Nancy-Ann, grandfather to 10 and great-grandfather to 4, died on March 7, 2008.
He was born in 1927 in Emmitsburg, Maryland. He was a graduate of the University of Maryland. He rose steadily over 39 years to senior executive positions at the Upjohn Company. He retired from Paoli to Savannah in 1994.
John loved Gerry beyond measure, laughter, his family and golf.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church.

Dear Gerry and family, Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time. We enjoyed our times with Woody; playing golf together and eating together especially years ago at Crisfield's in Silver Spring. It was good seeing you both at my 80th birthday party in 2004. When I think of John, the concepts that come to mind are dignity, inner strength, family and self reliance. In short, I believe that John represented the 'greatest generation' with honor and distinction. His family will surely miss John, and all the wisdom, character, and humor that he carried within.
